How to make your own matcha green tea mask with simple cupboard staples and the incredible powerhouse: matcha green tea.
You can buy face masks that contain matcha but, matcha is very sensitive to air and temperature. So, it is best to create a homemade mask with warm water and good quality matcha, so that it is most efficacious. We combine matcha powder with honey, blitzed oats and warm water - super simple - but ingredients renowned for their anti-inflammatory qualities!
Whether it's the air pollutants, cold winters or the high UV and dryness of summer, there is a lot that can irritate or throw your skin off balance and inflammation.
What Causes Skin Inflammation?
Inflammation is a defensive mechanism of the body, here the epidermis, which is triggered in response to stimulus, which the body perceives to be a danger. A good example of this is too much UV exposure. However, there are so many things in our day-to-day lives which can cause your skin to be inflamed. Is Green Tea Anti-Inflammatory?
Green tea, specifically matcha green tea is full of phenolic compounds and polyphenols, which have been lauded recently for their anti-inflammatory properties. High quality matcha is shade grown, slowly so that the camellia sinensis (tea plant) leaves can develop more nutrients than a regular cup of green tea, making matcha a powerful source of bioactive compounds. This is why we've chosen to pair it with honey and oats, also full of phenolic compounds to give your face a moment to chill!
When in my Skincare Routine Should I use a Face Mask?
Always after using cleanser - you do not want anything standing between your skin and your mask that may stop you from properly absorbing all that goodness.
Recipe
1 tsb PerfectTed Matcha Powder
2 tbsp Warm Water
1 tsb Honey
2 tbsp Blitzed Oats
Method
Step 1. Always patch test first! Apply a small amount of your mask onto your wrist. When content that your skin is a matcha fan, prepare your face by washing your face with your usual cleanser. If you've been wearing SPF or makeup, consider a double cleanse so that nothing stands in the way of the mask and your skin.
Step 2. Whilst still damp apply your mask until you've got a gorgeous green layer, and leave until you feel the mask beginning to harden.
Step 3. Wash the mask off with warm water and a clean flannel, apply your toner of choice followed by your usual moisturiser to complete your routine.
