This may not sound like your dream flavour combination but trust us on this and give it a go.
Matcha and salt is delicious! Combining the two for a matcha salt is a traditional Japanese seasoning, and great for sprinkling over savoury dishes such as tempura.
Let us explain - matcha has this delicious delicate savoury, umami flavour, so when paired with salt, it really brings those flavours out. If you usually whisk your matcha cold, this recipe is the time to try it with hot water, between 60-80 degrees, never boiling.
This recipe is the perfect balance of salty, sweet, and creamy.
Salted Maple Matcha Latte Recipe
Ingredients
Pinch of Maldon Sea Salt
1 tsp PerfectTed Matcha Powder
60ml of hot water, not boiling
200ml of milk
Optional splash of vanilla essence and maple syrup
Method
- Sift your matcha powder, add your pinch of salt and cover with hot water. Whisk the matcha until you get a light froth on top.
- I personally love this iced, but for hot just heat your milk ahead of pouring your milk into your glass and then topping with your matcha mixture.
- If you're adding any vanilla essence or maple syrup, start off with a small amount (no more than a splash) so as not to overpower the sea salt and matcha.
